Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs Festival Panel Investigates leadership at all levels

At this year’s SVEF (Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs Festival), CLUSA (Civic Leadership USA) supported a Civic Leadership Forum titled"Social Enterprise for a Better World." The panel examined the importance of civic leadership on the local, state, and national levels. Chuck Ng, the Director of Community Outreach and Development of CLUSA, moderated the panel. Drawing from their experience and diverse backgrounds, the panelists offered their insights in a lively debate.

The diverse work and perspectives

Anthony Ng, the Executive Director of CLUSA, spoke about CLUSA’s mission to empower and educate Asian Americans. That way, they can participate in civic life and political process. C. C. Yin, the founder of APAPA (Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs), spoke about his organization, the strongest of its kind in California. At the moment, their focus is to actively expand to otherstates.

Amy Kwok, the Founder, and CEO of PenguinSmart spoke about her company that provides solutions for children with communication delays. Her global team has a diverse background in medicine, rehab therapy, and technology. They combine data sciences with expert insights to enable caregivers to become active participants in the rehab journey of their children.

Margaret Conley, the Executive Director of Asian Society Northern California, shared how her institution tries to educate, promote mutual understanding, and engage the public. It is their way of creating communication channels and deeper understanding between Asia and the United States. It does so by organizing events in 14 centers worldwide. The focus of these events is to connect the local community with global leaders and innovators in the fields of policy, technology, and business (among others). The aim is to start a dialogue, generate ideas, and promote cooperation that will address present challenges and create a shared future.

David Wu, the former Congressman from Oregon, talked about his experience with government. From his experience, the government is good with massive-scale social programs, but not as equipped to deal with innovation.

The panel was a massive success and generated a lot of buzz among attendees. They expressed hope similar events can be expected at the next year’s SVEF.
