Shreveport-Bossier Hottest Spot for Mardi Gras and Festivities

Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana hosts a variety of events starting with Mardi Gras parades in February and wrapping up with local festivals in March.

The world famous Mardi Gras parades kick off this year in Shreveport-Bossier, Louisiana on February 22, 2014. Festival-goers can enjoy these exciting parades near the Shreveport riverfront and attend a variety of events throughout the area. Also on February 22, 2014, ARTini is being held at the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, and the 7th Annual ASEANA Spring Festival: China is holding court in downtown Shreveport. These are only a few of the exciting activities that can be enjoyed in this friendly southern city. There are also year round Vegas style casinos on the riverfront, great nightlife and a variety of local restaurants that fully capture the Louisiana cuisine.

The Krewe of Centaur XXIII Parade is one of the largest parading krewes in Louisiana and will serve to kick off the Mardi Gras festivities starting at 4:30 p.m., February 22, 2014 at Clyde Fant Parkway and Lake Street. This is will include a full parade regalia including floats, marching bands and for the line-up of this famous event and the Krewe of Centaur’s parade is just ten days before Fat Tuesday. There will be lots of throws and surrounding entertainment suitable for the entire family with this year’s theme of, “Fables, Folklore & Fairy Tales.”

"Shreveport-Bossier definitely knows how to do Mardi Gras," said Stacy Brown, president of the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau. "We draw some 400,000 parade-goers that enjoy our balls, parades, float loading parties and bridge closing ceremony."

Additional parades throughout the Mardi Gras celebrations in the northwest Louisiana cities are Krewe of Barkus and Meoux, Feb. 23; Krewe of Gemini Float Loading Party, Feb. 28; Krewe of Gemini Parade, March 1; Krewe of Highland Parade, March 2; Krewe of Aesclepius Children’s Parade, March 4; and Fat Tuesday Texas Street Bridge Closing Ceremony, March 4. These lead up to a host of other festivals and events throughout the months of February and March. The Louisiana Redbud Festival begins March 15 at the Vivian Town Square, and the ARTini at Horseshoe Casino and Hotel is being held that same day. The Spring 2014 Texas Avenue Makers Fair begins March 22.
