Rosenthal & Wadas, a Collin County Criminal Defense Attorney firm, proudly announces the recipient of the 2017 Aspiring Attorney Scholarship award. Jayelle Lozoya, a second-year South Texas College of Law student, will benefit from the $1,000 scholarship that will help to further her educational endeavors. This scholarship is of great importance, as the average cost of law school tuition has outpaced inflation in America. Law school students at the top 20 graduate law schools will pay an average of $45,560, according to Good Financial Cents. Even those who choose a public school may expect to pay an average of $23,214 a year for in state students, as reported by USNews.com, thus scholarships such as this are of great help to aspiring attorneys.

"Our firm remains committed to supporting those who wish to make up the next generation of attorneys, and this scholarship is one way for us to accomplish this goal. Students facing overwhelming debt may choose to pursue another field, and our industry needs dedicated professionals, thus we also work with those who wish to advance in their professional development. It's one way we can give back to those we serve," Heidi Stark, spokesperson for the Collin County Sex Crimes Attorney, reports.

Students who are entering or are currently enrolled in a law school were eligible to apply for this scholarship. The recipient was awarded with a $1,000 award to help offset their college expenses. The process involved an online application, and all entries were received by January 31st. The winner was announced in February.

"The application process involves writing an essay, as this provides more information about the applicant. Although certain questions are asked in the application that allow us to learn more about the applicant, the essay portion allows their character and personality to come through," Stark continues.

Many factors are considered when selecting the winner of the scholarship. The firm takes into account need and merit, but it considers other elements also. Any academic achievements of the student are looked at, along with leadership experience. Furthermore, the firm factors in community involvement, special honors and awards and more.

"Our firm remains committed to serving those in our community. We are thrilled to offer this scholarship, as it provides a way for us to help a promising student advance in their education and professional goals as they learn the trade," Stark, speaking for the Collin County DWI Lawyer, states.
