Founder Bill Zuckerman opened his first nursery because he couldn’t find a suitable nursery for his daughter. He felt that she required far more varied and interesting stimulation than was currently on the market and has continued to build on this idea at Wandsworth with CEO Ann Sheldon. Ann has built her career as an Early Years teacher, studied for a masters in Education and extensive experience training nursery nurses.
Bill and Ann have created a unique strategy that allows children to grow at their own pace through a carefully tailored curriculum. Using their own experience as parents of successful children and their understanding of what both parents and toddlers look for at nursery, they have realised that variety is the most important factor. This is why the nursery brings in other professionals to run workshops and share their ideas too. Children have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and the more they are exposed to, the more likely they are to find their own passions.
The curriculum at Wandsworth Nursery and Preschool includes a wide range of learning opportunities and activities that form a strong foundation for further education. They cover subjects including art, literacy, maths, science and performing arts as well as allow children to develop their sense of self-awareness and self-confidence. Though the children may not remember exactly what Dadaism is or who Shakespeare is, being exposed to this kind of cultural experience allows them to develop their skills and shows that most subjects don’t need to be dumbed down to be effective.
