MVR Cash & Carry Comments on How the Anticipated Holiday Rush Could Affect Retailers

MVR Cash and Carry weighs in on the holiday rush in the U.S. and what that could mean for Canadian grocery stores this Christmas.

MVR Cash & Carry (http://mvrwholesale.com), the largest self-serve food and convenience wholesaler in Ontario, comments on the Thanksgiving rush experienced at U.S grocery stores and weighs in on what Canadian retailers can expect as Christmas draws closer.

Last-minute shopping saw grocery stores and other outlets in the United States swarmed as families were spending an average of $56 U.S on their Thanksgiving meals. MVR Cash and Carry believes this rush of last-minute shoppers south of the border is a strong indication of what Canadian retails can expect leading up to the holidays. "The Christmas and New Years period means big get-togethers, elaborate meals, and lots of preparation for stores," notes Mike Commisso, co-owner and operator of MVR Cash & Carry. "Bakers, grocery stores, and caterers all need to get ready for customers who start scrambling at the last minute. The most in demand items during the holiday period are usually things like ready-cooked turkeys, cakes and other desserts. Gift baskets stocked with perfume and other goodies are also very popular."

With the anticipated holiday rush, retailers, including grocery stores, need to stay on top of inventory, preemptively stock up on holiday goods, and have as many hands on deck as possible to deal with the deluge of stressed out shoppers.

"Understanding the holiday hours of a supplier is important for shoppers. This can make all the difference between meeting a customer’s needs and making a sale versus having a customer leave angry and empty-handed," Commisso points out. "MVR Cash and Carry, for instance, is closed on December 25 and January 1, but will be open on the 24th and 31st for any businesses that need to stock up at the last minute."
