August 26 is National Dog Day, and dog fans have plenty of great ways to show their appreciation for all these special pets have to offer, Midwest Dog Training reports

More than 60 million American households now include a dog, according to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association. On August 26, families and groups nationwide will celebrate National Dog Day, an annual event that began in 2004 as a way to raise awareness and encourage adoption. As one of the country's leading companies of its kind, Midwest Dog Training Celebrates National Dog Day in style and helps others throughout the region do the same.

"National Dog Day is on the way, and we're looking forward to celebrating this special event once again," said Midwest Dog Training owner and lead trainer Chris Railsback. "Dogs enrich the lives of so many Americans today, and there's nothing we enjoy more than helping dogs become even better behaved companions. There are many great ways to celebrate National Dog Day, and we look forward to sharing them with our clients and others in the coming weeks."

Lifestyle authority Colleen Paige founded National Dog Day on August 26, 2004, choosing that date to commemorate her family's adoption of a beloved pet named "Sheltie" when she was a young girl. Since then, National Dog Day has gone on to be celebrated nationwide, even being officially recognized by the New York State Legislature in 2013.

As one of the country's leading dog training services, Midwest Dog Training is an avid supporter of National Dog Day and the principles for which it stands. Offering 3 and 6 week board and train programs with door-to-door transportation in a 300-mile radius from Sioux City, S.D., including Kansas City, Omaha and Lincoln NE, Midwest Dog Training has trained over 2500 happy dogs throughout its ten-plus years in operation. Using humane, comfortable means of behavior modification such as positive reinforcement, the company consistently helps dogs become better behaved, guaranteed and with free lifetime support.

With National Dog Day on the way once again, Midwest Dog Training will be sharing ideas about how to celebrate it with clients and others. Some popular options include:

Checking homes for safety issues that could impact dogs.
Donating to local shelters and animal welfare groups.
Adopting a dog from a shelter.
Giving dog-related gifts to others.
Offering to take the dog of an elderly or infirm neighbor for a walk.
Spending quality time with your own dog.
