In response to the growing rates of mental health concerns, bullying, teenage sex trafficking, and other critical issues adolescent girls are facing, Dr. Jasmine Zapata, MD, MPH in collaboration with national recording artist group Trilogy, social workers, youth counselors, ministers, authors, and various other youth empowerment specialists will be launching a 7 city girl’s empowerment tour this weekend. The tour will consist of a series of girl’s empowerment conferences in 7 cities across the Midwest. Tour stops will include Chicagoland Area/Hammond, IN (7/21/18), Madison, WI (7/23/18), Beloit, WI (7/26/18), Milwaukee, WI (7/28/18), Racine, WI (8/2/18), Detroit, MI (9/15/18), and Cincinnati, OH (10/27/18).This one of a kind and innovative approach to health promotion and youth empowerment will focus on the social, emotional and mental health of young women. The conferences are free and will include live musical performances by Trilogy as well as Dr. Zapata, who will be performing her signature “Beyond Beautiful” rap and song focused on inner beauty, resilience and self-esteem. Conferences will also include free book giveaways, mentorship opportunities, special guests, and dynamic breakout discussions focusing on mental health, relationships, resilience, and other pressing topics preteen and teen girls face.
Dr. Zapata is an author, pediatrician, public health strategist, and founder of the Beyond Beautiful International Girl’s Empowerment Movement. Dr. Zapata’s innovative community work in other areas has been featured on national TV outlets such as the Today Show and she is now excited to spread the word about her current initiative.
