Largest Crop Ever of the Supreme Pluot, Flavor King, Is Now Shipping from Frog Hollow Farm

Share this news:

Pluots, 75% plum and 25% apricot, gain popularity every year as more people taste them. California's Frog Hollow Farm has a record crop this year of the supreme pluot, Flavor King, and is shipping a specialty box now.

Farmer Al is very excited about this crop of pluots. It's the biggest Frog Hollow Farm has had of the famous Flavor King variety. They're available now, so don't miss this mid-summer gem, a hybrid of 75% plum and 25% apricot.

Eating a ripe plum can be like biting into a water balloon if not careful. With the pluot, however, adding the apricot qualities to the plum gives it extra texture for less dripping but keeps the sweet plum flavor. The pluot is not genetically modified, but a true hybrid born in 1989. The pluot has grown in maturity and popularity ever since, especially the most flavorful royal variety, the Flavor King, grown organically at Frog Hollow Farm.

To really get to know pluots, indulge in the contrasting flavors of Frog Hollow Farm's pluot varieties in one Organic Pluot Indulgence Box. Their organic Flavor King pluot is fruit royalty in this shipment, but their organic Flavor Heart pluots are giving it tough competition as they rise in popularity with each passing year. The intense, sweet and spicy tones of the Flavor Kings are in stark contrast to the mildly acidic, sweet flavor of the Flavor Heart variety, and their Dapple Dandy pluots are a favorite among kids for their speckled skin and bright red, crunchy flesh.

This shipment includes a mix of the pluot varieties that are picking best. The indulgence box is a staple for pluot lovers and is available to ship for a limited time. It includes at least 2 seasonally ripe varieties of pluots.

And the farm's Opal peaches will be picking soon. This is Frog Hollow's only white peach variety. Like the jewel it's named after, Opal peaches are something special — they're delicate, sweet, creamy and dense. Opal peaches are available for pre-order now.

More about pluots and Frog Hollow Farm:

Like most stone fruits pluots thrive in regions such as California's San Joaquin Valley and the eastern Mediterranean coast where winter temperatures are cool but not cold, and the summer season is long, warm and dry. To store pluots let them ripen at room temperature and keep in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Frog Hollow Farm is a 143-acre certified organic farm located in the San Joaquin Valley's fertile Sacramento River Delta just east of San Francisco in Brentwood, California. Frog Hollow Farm has a use for all the fruit they grow. Farmer Al says only 2% of all fruit is cosmetically perfect. Fruit with minor blemishes (most of the harvest) goes to local Farmer's Markets. Beautiful fruit with great flavor and able to survive shipping goes to online mail order customers. Ready-to-eat blemished fruit finds its way to the weekly boxes of the Community Supported Agriculture program that Frog Hollow Farm operates.
