Help 2 Buy Windows have just provided 22 windows and 2 doors for the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Parents Accommodation.

Help 2 Buy Windows have recently helped the Luton & Dunstable University Hospital with a charitable donation. The hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) began developments on a nearby house that they hoped to transform into accommodation for any parents who have children in the NICU. They ran into a stumbling block with the build as they couldn’t find the money to pay for window or door installation.

The hospital is solely funded by donations from the local community. Upon purchasing the property, they realised that a lot of renovations needed to be carried out. So, the community fundraiser started seeking out any donations from local businesses and individuals. The team at H2B Windows caught wind of this and immediately offered their assistance. They came forward and donated a total of 22 modern windows and 2 brand new doors. All the windows and both the doors came with modern double-glazing to provide the accommodation with added security and energy efficiency. As a result, it creates a more comfortable place for parents to stay. Alongside the material donations, H2B also donated their services by providing the window and door installation as well.

Thanks to the generosity of H2B Windows - and other local businesses - the hospital can now provide an additional five bedrooms for any parents that need somewhere to stay while their newborn baby is in the intensive care unit. Before this development, there was only one small bungalow that offered four rooms for only one family to stay in. As a consequence, many parents were forced to pay for expensive hotel accommodation during a terribly troubling time in their lives. The new house is much closer to the hospital than any nearby hotels, and it’s completely free.

Dr Jennifer Birch, a spokesperson for the hospital, said that there were also lots of benefits to the new accommodation. She stated that it allowed parents to “feel much more involved with their babies care, and spend lots of time at the cotside with their baby, sharing skin to skin cuddles.” This can help parents create a bond with their baby from the very beginning, which they may miss out on without proper accommodation. Previously, many parents were only able to stay for a day before having to journey home, purely because of the lack of housing. Now, this new home has completely transformed things and provided parent’s with somewhere to rest without being too far away from their child.
