Albatross Roofing maintains high standards for occupational health and safety

Albatross Roofing is pleased to share it's renewed Certificate of Recognition (COR) from the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) department. The certification comes after an extensive review and audit of a company's health and safety management system. An onsite inspection will be completed, alongside employee interviews across all levels of employment.

Documentation of safety standards and a review of these practices will be performed. Most importantly, the auditing team will observe the workplace conditions and practices. At a roofing company, there is always a substantial risk of injury. It is important to address and control all factors of injury in order to minimize them.

Common injuries in roofing jobs include falls. These present all sorts of injury opportunity such as torn ligaments, broken or fractured bones, injury to ankles from hard impact, and trauma to heads. These are not minor injuries and can lead to a devastating loss that impacts workers for the rest of their careers. Roofing is also a job that takes place outdoors. Problems with dehydration, heat stroke, and sunburn can damage a worker's health. Albatross Roofing has demonstrated that it takes these injuries and risks very seriously through developing a thorough protocol.

For OHS, a COR holder must have nine different health and safety management functions in place. First off, Albatross Roofing or any other Edmonton roofers company must have identified the potential risks and safety hazards are a work site.

Secondly, the company must show an effort to mitigate or reduce these risks on the work site.

Third, a clear demonstration of commitment to safety must be present and written into the company policy.

Fourth, the company must show worker competency, as well as provide orientation and training to workers.

The fifth requirement is that an inspection program must be utilized. Sixth, the company must have a plan in place to react swiftly to an emergency situation. You can put measures in place, but if an accident does occur, then knowing what steps to take can help reduce the panic and get help swiftly. Seventh, there must be a system in place for reporting incidences and having investigations done. Eighth in this process is to have management and system administration on board with health and safety protocols.

Lastly, there must be a joint worksite health and safety committee responsible for maintaining safety standards. Albatross Roofing has continuously held and renewed their COR making it clear that safety for their workers is essential to every work site.
