Bed bugs are unique in that they go through several stages before reaching maturity. The adults and nymphs must have blood meals from warm-blooded hosts, typically humans. Females lay about five eggs daily throughout their adult lives. Typical locations are mattress seams, crevices in box springs and spaces under baseboards. At each of the five nymphal stages, a blood meal is required. Adults live six to twelve months and may survive for lengthy periods without feeding.
