Ripe Peaches Fight for Supremacy in Organic Fruit Delivery Taste-Off

The best tasting tree-ripe organic peach will be determined by a special fruit box delivery program featuring the two contenders.

The Battle of the Peaches is back.

One of the pleasures of summer is a sweet and fragrant tree-ripened peach dripping with juice. And now, lovers of fresh organic peaches can enjoy two famous varieties at once when the harvests briefly overlap.

To celebrate this happy alignment of nature, Brentwood, California's Frog Hollow Farm will feature a taste-off between these two varieties at participating Bay-area farmers markets. Nationwide, connoisseurs of tree-ripened organic peaches can have their own taste-off when they elect to participate in a special organic fruit delivery program over a three-week period from late July to mid August.

Frog Hollow Farm growers start picking the famous O'Henry peach in late July. Then the O'Henry harvest overlaps for a few days to a week with the harvest of the Cal Red variety. This tree-ripened organic fruit delivery program of three fruit box shipments will be available only to those who order online.

The Battle of the Peaches begins with a fresh box of organic O'Henry peaches. When the Cal Red peaches are ready, Frog Hollow Farm will ship participants a dual fruit box containing each peach variety, so customers can sample both contenders at once. The following week everyone finishes with a box of Cal Reds. Once they have tried both varieties, peach lovers can vote for their favorite peach at www.FrogHollow.com.

Decades ago, Frog Hollow Farm owner “Farmer Al” Courchesne adopted the Cal Red as the farm’s signature peach, a unique variety that has become the favorite of discerning peach lovers across the country. But the O'Henry, according to Farmer Al, “is my favorite peach to grill. The O'Henry has the flavor, size, and crimson blush that makes a truly memorable peach.” Its pointed form makes an attractive heart shape when sliced.

Peaches grow in all the earth’s temperate regions, but they find a perfect home in Brentwood, California's Mediterranean-type climate with its warm days and cool nights. Frog Hollow Farm grows more than twelve varieties of organic peaches that are harvested from mid-June to early September. While a ripe peach of almost any variety is a delight to fresh fruit lovers around the country, the O'Henry and Cal Red are highly prized.

Farmer Al has been called a “rock star” of the fruit delivery industry because he selects only the sweetest, most flavorful, tree-ripened fruit to ship directly to his customers, from tree to table in 48 hours. All tree-ripened fruit from Frog Hollow Farm is carefully boxed and shipped unblemished and ready to eat, and because they can't predict all harvest conditions, some late-harvest orders may not be filled. Farmer Al insists, “We are sticklers for quality and want to make certain you get the best peaches there are.”

About Frog Hollow Farm:
Frog Hollow Farm is a 133-acre organic farm located in Brentwood, California, east of San Francisco in the fertile Sacramento River Delta. According to Farmer Al, only 2% of fruit is cosmetically perfect. Fruit with minor blemishes makes up the bulk of any harvest and much of it goes to area Farmer's Markets. Beautiful fruit that is ripe enough to have great flavor and survive shipping goes to their mail order customers. Ripe and ready-to-eat blemished fruit finds a home in the weekly boxes of the Community Supported Agriculture program they operate.
