Flood Services Canada Finishes Remediation of Downtown Toronto Commercial Flooding

Flood Services Canada weighs in on recent restoration of a ruptured water supply line in Toronto that flooded several floors and caused millions of dollars in damages.

Flood Services Canada (www.floodservices.ca) technicians have finished their restoration work of a 23-storey commercial building in downtown Toronto. According to the company, the water supply line in one of the kitchens had ruptured, flooding several floors and causing millions of dollars in damages.

Flood response teams from Flood Services Canada were dispatched within the first hour and immediately began the water extraction process. Since the water was from a burst pipe and not a sewage backup or fire, the extraction process was smoother due to the relative lack of contamination risk, according to the company. It was also complicated, partially due to how many floors were involved.

“The risk with high-rise buildings, or any building with more than two floors, is that a pipe can burst on an upper level,” noted Chad Vanvari, owner of Flood Services Canada. “When that happens, and the water begins gushing over and seeping into the floor, it goes down to the next floor...and the cycle repeats again all the way to the ground level.”

Flood Services Canada’s team managed most of the emergency phase, the first period of a disaster where agility and quick decision-making are essential for minimizing losses. In addition to extracting standing water from carpeting and other hard surfaced flooring, Flood Services Canada’s teams were also responsible for removing all affected building materials. Drying holes were also drilled where needed to create airflow in order to ensure drying goals were met.

Flood Services Canada is the leader in flood remediation, mould removal, and other loss prevention techniques. The company’s specialties include fire, flood, and sewage backup remediation and cleanup.
