All Natural Abby’s Millstone Baking Company honors heroes by donating Goods Weekly to the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Abby’s Millstone Baking Company in Agoura Hills, CA has committed to donate weekly to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 83 of San Fernando Valley. Every week, Abby's donates $2-300 worth of freshly baked cookies and breads to the organization, and it's members. All of the donated food goes directly to the organization, and is an ongoing effort by the bakery to help those who need help.

The mission of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is a national organization, with 100's of chapters and nearly 45,000 members. The membership is composed exclusively of Purple Heart recipients, and is the only veterans service organization comprised strictly of “combat” veterans. It's mission is to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, and provide service to all veterans and their families.

“My main motivation in donating to the Military Order of the Purple Heart is quite simple. I want to help those that no one takes care of. I'm not sure why these remarkable human beings are neglected, but they are. I am proud to do what I can”, said Joachim “Abby” Franke, owner of Abby’s Millstone Baking Company. “When I read certain thank you letters from the veterans, I am reminded that even our little bakery does matter a lot. I wish more would think like this.”

The freshly baked goods from Abby’s Millstone Baking Company wind up in homeless shelters, the Veterans Administration hospital and with the families of Purple Heart recipients.

“Half of us are starving sometimes. The bread really helps us out, " says Luis Rivera, Executive Chairman of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 83 of San Fernando Valley. "Yes, of course, we appreciate the breads and cookies and such that Abby’s Millstone Baking Company donates. We love it. We need it. And it goes without saying that we are grateful. The thing that impresses me the most, is Abby himself --- his humility. No one else does what he does. He doesn't even know how much he is helping us. You just don't find too many people like him.”

Rivera, a Purple Heart winner, was wounded in the Tet Offensive in the Vietnam War in 1969. Every week, when the breads arrive, Rivera drives them personally to the VA hospital in North Hills, CA. He hands out the bread to veterans, and tells each and every one of them where it came from.

The Military Order of the Purple Heart is not the only non-profit Abby’s Millstone Baking Company is involved with: Children Of The Night, dedicated to rescuing America's children from the ravages of prostitution and a Simi Valley Vietnam Vets organization also enjoy Abby's largesse.
