Pinnacle Woodcraft is introducing a Dog, cat or Pet Casket for people with companion animals who are nearing the end of their lives. Pinnacle Woodcraft is well known for its finely made pet furniture. Craftsman Jonas Zook Jr. has over two decades of experience as a furniture builder and shop foreman at an Amish furniture company. He decided to take his considerable skills and experience to make them available to pet lovers.

The most challenging part of owning a pet is losing that companion. Much like the emotional trauma of losing a human friend or relative, people will not always make the choices they would when they were not so upset and stressed by a significant loss. And like planning a funeral for any family member, the best time to make arrangements for a pet is in advance. “Experiencing the loss of your pet and friend can be just as devastating as losing a family member,” Zook said. “Our pets truly become part of out hearts and home. A proper farewell will be healing time for the whole family and a last opportunity to express your love and respect for your pet.” Like all their pet furniture, the coffins are made from solid wood like oak, maple and other hard wood that does not include particleboard or other filler materials.

There are reasons to choose a wooden casket for pet burial particularly if the location is in an individuals yard. The wooden casket needs to be built to last a long time and to prevent predators from digging up a fresh grave. Some people choose to re-inter their pets when they move, which is another reason for choosing a casket that can withstand the elements over many years.

Choosing to care for deceased pets with well made wooden caskets is not surprising news and Pinnacle Woodcraft, like other businesses, is expanding what they offer into what is known as the ‘aftercare’ market for pets. For Pinnacle Woodcraft, this is a natural extension for the work they were doing with other types of wooden pet furniture. Ten years ago there were only a handful of companies that offered services like these. According to the Atlanta based International Association of Pet Cemeteries and Crematories there are about 700 such companies. Very few, if any of these, offer the types of craftsmanship, quality, and creativity that Pinnacle Woodcraft offers.

Mr. Zook began his business building crates for dogs, crates being used by trainers to housebreak dogs in a force free way. They were also ways to have a dog in the living room without he/she settling in the same place that human family members also occupied. The well-constructed wooden crates replace plastic and metal crates. While those traditional crates were useful, they were not the right accompaniment for dogs or their owners. “When talking to pet owners they expressed the need of having their beloved dog in the living room but wished for a nice crate for the dog to replace the wire crate,” Zook said.

As well constructed as all the pet furniture is at Pinnacle Woodcraft, they also include many creative extras. For example, the wooden dog crate doubles as an entertainment center which includes a slide out drawer for pet owners to place important documents in, also doubles as an entertainment stand. The table surface provides space for a television and/ or sound system. Below the drawer, the dog can relax in his or her own space. The wood pet furniture is also available without the drawer.

Just as the wooden crates and other furniture made at Pinnacle Woodcraft are second to none, so too are the pet caskets. These are durable vessels for the family pet to transition to the next life. People love their pets and want the best for them all the time. The pet casket from Pinnacle Woodcraft is great and loving way to help ease the transition for pets and the people who love them.
