William Swyers, DVM, Admits to Fraud in Management of Dash Ta Fame Breeding Contracts

Dash Ta Fame, the all-time leading sire of barrel horses, died on the evening of Wednesday, July 13, 2011, of unknown causes. Throughout his lifetime, Dash Ta Fame has sired 562 barrel racing money winners who have earned a combined $7,3889,702, according to Equi-Stat.


On July 10, 2014, the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Riverside, entered a civil judgment in the amount of $436,450 against William E. Swyers, DVM, Smart Ranches, William E. Swyers, DVM, Professional Corporation and Stallion & Mare Assisted Reproduction, Smart, P.C., jointly and severally, in favor of the plaintiff Robert Burt.


The judgment was entered for Fraud, Conversion of money/property and related claims that had been advanced by Robert Burt in his civil complaint against Dr. William E. Swyers and the named business entities operated by Dr.William E. Swyers.


In the judgment, Dr. William Swyers agreed to pay $436,450 to Robert Burt and admitted to the following offenses:


•  Fraud


•  Conversion/Stealing of Dash Ta Fame breeding fees for personal use.


•  Breach of fiduciary duties to Bob Burt, owner of Dash Ta Fame.


•  Misrepresentation of Dash Ta Fame’s inventory of semen.


•  Diverting funds earmarked for Bob Burt to his (William Swyers’) personal account.


•  Orchestrating false factual scenarios for the purposes of inducing Bob Burt to continue using his services.


•  Other wrongful conduct as alleged in the civil complaint.
