Waxlander Gallery to Welcome Christopher Owen Nelson for His Solo Show, “Subconscious Space”

Canyon Road’s Waxlander Art Gallery & Sculpture Garden will be celebrating Christopher Owen Nelson’s newest pieces with a solo show to take place July 29th through August 11th, with an opening reception Friday, August 1st, from 5-7:30pm. Nelson’s show, titled: “Subconscious Space,” will provide the viewer with a thought-provoking experience as he or she journeys through the contemporary exhibit.

Nelson’s newest ventures in art are inspired by the principles of exploration and the artist’s desire to ever broaden his understanding of space. He explains, “I find more and more, as my work progresses, that I am intrigued by exploring the indefinite space in my pieces.” He continues, “In this body I am expanding upon a part of my work that I feel has become an area of subconscious exploration, both for myself and for the viewer, while maintaining the dichotomy of the definite and indefinite.”

The viewer of Nelson’s newest pieces, and specifically the featured works at Waxlander’s summer show, can expect to experience the ‘indefinite’ parts of Nelson’s work. He explains, “I want the viewer to embrace these ‘indefinite’ parts of my work, and allow them to become a vehicle for individual subconscious exploration.”

Christopher Owen Nelson was born in Colorado in 1979. He started exploring with various mediums at an early age, and his first works were ushered into Denver galleries when he was in his teens. Nelson studied at the Rocky Mountain College of Art and design, which gave him a nice launching point from which he grew to impact the art community through his pioneering explorations of carved and manipulated acrylic and his bold use of color. While contemporary in nature, Nelson’s work actually manages to transcend the binds of genre, and he is ever experimenting and playing with new concepts and compositions. Waxlander invites art enthusiasts to experience Nelson’s work in person, which is truly the best way to ingest his mixed media on acrylic pieces.
