Victory Lap 5K will be held on October 10th, 2020 at Barber Park. The event is inspired by slain hip hop artist, entrepreneur, and community activist Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Ashghedom. Victory Lap 5K seeks to bring the local community together to raise awareness and funding for STEM Education, Entrepreneurship and Equity; a space that was very near and dear to Nipsey Hussle’s heart.Nipsey Hussle believed in entrepreneurship, asset ownership, and equipping people from underrepresented communities with the technology skills of the future as a vehicle towards financial stability and wealth generation.
It’s no secret now that Black and Hispanic American’s have been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic, but these economic disparities existed well before Covid-19 ever hit the United States. Through Victory Lap 5k, the event’s organizer, Be Great Foundation, seeks to make a tangible difference in the community and the lives of those within it by exposing them to new career opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and helping them to start and grow tech businesses and careers that will improve their earning potential and build wealth for themselves and their families.
Victory Lap5K will be a family friendly event that includes a 5K, a Dedication Celebration and Awards Ceremony honoring the life and legacy of Nipsey Hussle, live performances, and a marketplace featuring local vendors and food trucks. Race tickets are $35 before August 1st, and $45 after August 1st.
Proceeds will provide scholarship for local middle-schools students to attend virtual STEM camps to learn skills like 3D Printing, Game Development, and Digital Animation. Funds will also go towards sending two individuals ages 18-25 to Springboard’s remote immersion programs in UX/UI Design and Software Engineering with guaranteed job placement upon completion. Victory Lap 5K also seeks to award two grants to local entrepreneurs to start and grow a tech business.
Be Great Foundation is currently open to sponsorship for the Victory Lap 5K, and is excited for the opportunity to reach out to, inspire, and provide an outlet for Nipsey Hussle’s fervent and adoring fanbase.
Be Great Founder, Ciandress Jackson is a Software Consultant and Entrepreneur who’s passion is helping other people achieve their visions while incessantly pursuing her own. One day, Ciandress hopes to own a co-working space where entrepreneurs can come to dream, learn, collaborate, and listen to great music as the soundtrack to their dreams.
