A Missouri-based emergency preparedness company has announced the implementation of a month-long media blitz designed to increase awareness of the potential for harm to self and loved ones. DTC LifeTools kicked off its annual emergency preparedness awareness campaign with a new blog post on their company website.

In an address just prior to September 1, 2014 President Barrack Obama helped to usher in this year's National Emergency Preparedness Month with a proclamation that warns emergencies, “from hurricanes and wildfires to cyber and terrorist attacks, can strike anywhere at any time.” The proclamation goes on to advise all Americans to have an emergency preparedness plan.

President Obama went on to say, “Before emergencies occur, we must make sure we are ready to respond, and it is every American's responsibility to be prepared. There are simple but important steps we can all take to ensure we know what to do and have what we need in the event of a crisis. National Preparedness Month is an opportunity to talk with our families, friends, and colleagues about the risks in our communities and to practice our responses in all the places we regularly visit.”

Officials at DTC LifeTools, a provider of emergency preparedness products, report they have made preparations of their own for this opportunity to participate in a nationwide campaign to educate, increase awareness, and stimulate action on the part of all people. The 2014 theme for this campaign is “Be Disaster Aware, Take Action to Prepare.”

Company CEO, Don Carter, suggests that “We all need to be actively involved in National Emergency Preparedness Month because we all have something at stake whether it be our own lives and well-being, the lives and well-being of our loved ones, or the lives and well-being of our friends and neighbors. All we need to do is look at the news reports once in a while to see just how important it is to prepare. We see regular reports of increased frequency and/or severity in tornadoes, hurricanes, winter storms, earthquakes, wildfires, chemical spills, civil unrest, terrorism, contagious disease, volcanic eruptions, and solar activity. This list does not even include the most frequent emergencies, motor vehicle accidents and accidents in the home.”

President Obama's proclamation also advises that Americans “should be familiar with local threats and hazards and take steps to reduce their devastating impacts… Families should assemble a disaster supplies kit well in advance and have a plan to reconnect after a tragedy,” the president said.

DTC LifeTools has developed plans for a month-long social media campaign, a series of educational articles to be posted on their website throughout September, and various other methods of online engagement toward the common goal of saving lives.
