The Season's First Ripe Peaches Harvested May 22 at California's Frog Hollow Farm

Share this news:

The beautiful Crimson Lady peaches were ripe and ready for harvest on Thursday, May 22, 2014. They made an appearance on the Frog Hollow Farm packing line and the organic peach shipping season has begun.

The beautiful Crimson Lady peaches began being harvested Thursday, May 22, 2014. Frog Hollow Farm's Farmer Al was right on the money when he said this year's peach harvest is going to come in earlier than usual. They've seen it with their apricot and cherry crops and now peaches have made an appearance on the packing line for those who order fruit online.

The Crimson Lady is one of the first varieties off the tree – it's early but legendary. It has a firm texture that is more springy than juicy and where some palates may find it less desirable for eating out of hand, when dried it is uniquely chewy and delicious. It is more firm than the traditional juicy peaches and Frog Hollow Farm takes most of them to the farmer's markets. Customers can also order peaches for delivery if they are anxious for their first taste of summer fruit.

If customers haven't signed up for a peach club thinking peaches won't be here until June, then peach lovers are urged to join a club now to be sure to not miss out on any farm-favorite varieties.

Here is a detailed description of Frog Hollow's two peach programs and their Pick of The Crop and Summer Sampler organic fruit delivery clubs below:

Gotta Have Some Peaches (12 shipments), $568 - $924
Get ready for 12 weeks of Frog Hollow's finest, juiciest tree-ripened peaches. Every week customers are in for a treat when they receive a box of the hand-picked freshest fruit the orchard has to offer. Frog Hollow harvesters will ship only the extra tasty fruits coming off the trees. Once peach lovers have signed up for this program, they will look forward to summer even more every year - and according to Farmer Al that's Frog Hollow Farm's promise!

Peachy Picks (8 shipments), $379 - $616
If customers are as picky about peaches as Farmer Al, then they will enjoy eight shipments of the pick of the peach crop as harvesters comb the orchards for the freshest tree-ripened fruit Frog Hollow has to offer. From the early-ripening Gold Dust and juicy, 'eat-over-the-sink' heritage Suncrests, to the robust, flavorful O'Henry to their signature California-born Cal Red, customers will be in peachy heaven all summer long.

Pick of The Week Fruit Club, $907 - $1303
Farmer Al spends almost as much time in Frog Hollow's orchards as the trees do, and he knows each and every day what's eatin' best. With their premium Pick of the Week Club, customers will enjoy the farm's most flavorful apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, and pears to one's heart's content — and their stomach's delight! With this program, harvesters will hand-pick 16 shipments of mixed organic fruit, so customers get the best of what's coming in from the orchard.

Summer Sampler, $340 - $489
This fresh fruit program is a great way to sit back and sample the best of Frog Hollow Farm. As their crops of apricots, peaches, plums, pluots, nectarines, and pears ripen, they'll hand-pick the best of each to bring to the table. Customers will receive one box of each of the six types of fruit grown, highlighting specific notable varieties including the Cal Red peach and the Flavor King pluot. Because Frog Hollow harvesters pick the best fruit available at the time of shipment, specific varieties may vary.
