The Printing Team, the GTA’s premium full-service printing firm, advises on the best uses for specific types of paper.

The Printing Team (www.ThePrintingTeam.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s premier full-service printing firm since 1985, is giving instructions on the best uses for specific types of paper.

“The question of which paper to use for which project is not always simple to discern,” says Kenneth Ghazi, president of The Printing Team. “Depending on the nature of the project and the intended recipients, a lot must be considered before deciding to print.”

Ghazi suggests using photocopy paper for day-to-day printing because it’s the most readily available type of paper, as well as the cheapest. It’s best used around the office for printing reports or letters or for office communication that goes on walls.

“If things are a bit more formal, consider using laser or ink jet paper,” Ghazi explains. “Both leave sharper impressions and neither goes yellow for a long time. They’re more expensive than photocopy paper, but if the print is being given to someone of significance, then it’s worth it.” (Source: Grotta, S.W. and Grotta, D., “Printing Basics: How to Choose The Right Kind of Paper,” ComputerShopper.com; http://www.computershopper.com/feature/printing-basics-how-to-choose-the-right-kind-of-paper/(page)/3, last accessed May 16, 2014.)

Ghazi notes that being eco-friendly is always an issue these days. That’s why, to ensure the responsibility of being environmentally friendly, using post consumer waste is usually a safe option. He adds that post-consumer waste has less chemicals and that recycled paper is also an option as well. “When possible, it’s always good to try and save some money,” Ghazi concludes. “The main way to do this is by going directly to manufacturers. This will cut down on costs for mass printing and manufacturers will be able to offer advice on which paper is best for which project.”
