The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists comments on Prince William considering a hair transplant.

The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists (www.CanadianHair.ca), a Toronto-based organization offering hair loss treatment for over 25 years, is weighing in on reports that Prince William may be going for hair transplant surgery.

According to a story by the Daily Star, Prince William may actually be considering hair transplant surgery to regain a full head of hair. “Hair loss can affect anyone, even British royalty,” says Ken Robson, founder of the Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists. “This is a problem that can affect men and women of any age and that can cause self esteem issues, as well as big changes to appearance. Before, hair loss treatments wouldn't be openly discussed, but now even celebrities and royalty are exploring these options in the public eye.”

Prince William’s apparent interest in the treatment has come after he talked with Wayne Rooney, the popular British football player. Rooney has received several hair transplants and talks publicly about his satisfaction with the procedures.

“Hair transplants have come a long way,” Robson observes. “Now, they can return a full head of natural hair to someone with balding. It’s essentially a cure for hair loss. There’s also a lot less stigma surrounding these treatments now, so people feel comfortable discussing this openly and showing their results.”

However, there is some current concern that Prince William, should the story be true, may have waited too long for treatment. The top of his scalp is almost completely bald, and at least one hair specialist has said he does not believe a transplant would be successful.

“With these treatments, it's the sooner, the better,” Robson notes. “Hair transplants can be very effective, but they need to be done at the right time. If they are put off for too long, it can lower the chances of success. Hair loss treatments are usually more effective the sooner they are begun. Delaying like Prince William reportedly has is not a good idea.”

Prince William is said to be losing significant amounts of hair, making his decision very time-sensitive. The Prince is also said to be worried about the reaction from the Royal family, many who have experienced balding and simply let it run its course.

“In the past, people would just let hair loss happen, but they, they don’t have to suffer with it,” Robson concludes. “The treatments currently available can provide a full head of hair. It just depends on taking the right steps and seeking treatment before it’s too late.”

The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists is the leading provider of treatment for hair loss in men. The company offers clients a number of options, ranging from hair transplant surgery to realistic hair systems.
