New gourmet food company wants to change how Americans think about healthy food.

SAN FRANCISCO, California – Around one in three Americans is now considered obese. The United States spends more on health care, based on purchasing power parity per capita, than any other country. Cancer rates in the United States rank within the ten highest in the world. Despite the abundant resources available in the U.S., Americans do not appear to be getting healthier for the most part.

Emily Quinn believes that an important piece of the health puzzle is healthy eating, and that the first step is to make healthy eating enjoyable. Though physicians regularly recommend that patients improve their eating habits, many patients resist these changes even when they know that it will benefit their health, at least in part because they fear that it will mean eating foods that taste bad. Quinn founded TerraVerve(TM) (www.terraverve.com) to help solve this problem, with a mission to source and share foods that taste good, but are also good for you.

“Most of us grew up thinking that healthy food has to be something like over-boiled brussel sprouts that were forced on us by our parents,” said Quinn. “With TerraVerve, I want to help change the way Americans think about healthy food, to show them that foods that are good for them can actually be tasty. When someone tries one of our products, I want them to think, ‘That's delicious! I can't believe that it's a health food!'”

Quinn plans to offer TerraVerve products exclusively on Amazon.com initially. With over 237 million active customer accounts and $44 billion in U.S. sales in 2013, Amazon is one of the 10 largest retailers in the U.S. Quinn notes that the opportunity to sell products on Amazon is a boon to small business owners, and says, “Being able to get in front of that many potential customers when you're just launching a small business is amazing. Selling on Amazon is a great way for us to share TerraVerve's message with as many people as possible.”
