The Teacher’s Learning Center (TLC) provides a wide variety of courses at different credit levels which helps K-12 teachers increase their pay scales. Those requiring license renewal can also sign up for these courses for necessary credit.TLC is reportedly planning on adding a new course, the Power of the Female Brain, to its curriculum in upcoming semesters. Assignments and discussion in this course will revolve around the emerging science behind the unique physiology of the female neurological system and how this might apply to methods used in the classroom.
A better learning environment - The Power of the Female Brain will be headed by Joseph C’de Baca, MaEd who will work to meet a variety of objectives throughout the duration of the course. The course will cover writings in “Unleash the Power of the Female Brain” by Dr. Daniel Amen-- in addition to a variety of web sources.
The overall goal of the course is to instruct students to better harness and nurture the power of the female brain—with an aim to create a better learning environment. Issues such as ADHD will be studied throughout the course, to determine how they uniquely impact the female brain as well as encouraging female students to examine their own health to harness their physical and mental power the best way possible.
The Collective Goal - The overall goal of this online graduate course is to empower both female teachers participating in the course - and the students they teach - with more effective learning styles. The focus of the course is to reflect upon the topics given as a means of creating a constructive conversation regarding how the teaching environment can be altered to better address the needs of female participants according to recent discoveries in neuroscience.
It’s been reported in a study that common teaching methods are failing to reach groups of students evenly, causing a large number of students to be left behind. It is common for females to lose out on valuable math and science skills, leaving lack of female participants in some of the most lucrative fields.
Scientists are also starting to learn how a variety of hormones can impact the functionality of the brain. These findings will have a direct impact on how a woman thinks at different developmental points in her lifecycle. Learning how to reach out and relate to women at these different points is essential to creating a quality teaching environment for young students.
The Power of the Female Brain is worth three graduate credits for participants in the teaching profession; students will be expected to create reflections on the lessons as well as provide writing assignments in order to earn full credit in the course. These include reviews of the interactive website, book chapters, application essay and a unit project for each section of the course.
