With the help of parents & supporters, teachers bring new ideas into the classroom and expand on outside opportunities so children get a better education & enjoy school more, TeacherFunder reports

More than 15 percent of high school students do not graduate, according to data gathered by the 2019 U.S. News Best High Schools rankings. State graduation rates range from 72 to 94 percent. People, however, need to be wondering what happened to the other 15 percent. Every child deserves a quality education and one group is working to make this happen by changing the way they fund classrooms.

A study found that 1.3 million students dropped out in 2010 before they graduated. Had they actually gone on to obtain a high school diploma, they would have made $337 billion more in wages over their lifetimes. This hurts not only the dropouts but the nation as a whole. Hopefully, with the help of TeacherFunder this will soon change.

Teachers are struggling as well. They make an average of $47,581 according to PayScale.com. Some teachers though only bring home $29,000 a year and yet pay for supplies out of their own funds. They also bring work home with them to complete as they wish to remain focused on the children while in the classroom.

Students deserve better as they are the next generation of leaders. Nevertheless, teachers cannot continue to pick up the slack when their school district is underfunded. TeacherFunder provides a way for teachers to raise money to purchase items for their classrooms.

The site provides a means for teachers to come together with parents and supporters to obtain funds for items to be used in the classroom. The teacher controls any money that is raised for the classroom and does not have to share with others within the school or district.

The items purchased for the classroom can be used to make learning fun again. Children enter a classroom with different learning styles, and teachers must accommodate these distinct styles. When the funds are available to purchase additional materials, doing so becomes easier.

Items purchased through the program can be used to help students connect with different subjects. When students have fun learning new material, they are more likely to retain it. Christina Hinton, a Harvard Graduate School of Education neuroscientist and lecturer, conducted a study that found that happy children are more likely to succeed when it comes to their education.

Teachers may use the funds to buy items that might otherwise not be available, ones that will enhance a child's passion and ability to learn. Technology may be one way to do so, but it is not the only one. Concepts may also be mastered through games, art projects, and more. The time away from books and traditional learning helps reduce tension in the classroom, but this is only one way it can be of help.

The funds can also be used to take children out of the classroom and immerse them in a subject away from school. The funds obtained through the program could be used to fund a field trip for the students, one that allows them to learn more about a subject they are studying in the classroom.

Engaging a student is key to learning. The opportunities that open up when funds are available to be used at the teacher's discretion are endless. Every teacher should consider signing up for TeacherFunder and every parent and supporter should look for classrooms to help fund. Doing so only makes the educational system better which benefits the country as a whole.
