Successful Kickstarting Team Launches Second Weighted Blanket

Just in time for Christmas, a Kickstarter is launching for a newly designed 20 pound weighted blanket with the word "Happiness" embroidered in the corner.

Today, TRU Lite Bedding is reprising their successful TRU Blanket in a new weight. The original TRU Blanket campaign was successfully funded in just one day, and eventually reached a total of 498 backers, raising over $91,000. Jason Spahr and the team at TRU Lite Bedding have returned to Kickstarter to launch their second weighted blanket.

TRU Blanket was created to improve on other weighted blankets’ designs. Weighted blankets are used both at home and in various medical settings to help to relax and comfort users. The heavy pressure on the body creates an effect known as Deep Touch Pressure Stimulation, which can lower the body’s stress hormones and raise the ability to generate positive hormones like serotonin and melatonin that help humans to relax and rest. The soothing effect has been used to support those with anxiety, PTSD, insomnia, autism, and other sorts of mental distress.

The TRU Blanket’s original run was well-received and got enthusiastic support from followers. The features of the TRU Blanket are an improved stitching design meant to keep the weight from shifting. It also includes small glass beads instead of plastic pellets. Glass was chosen to eliminate toxic off-gassing, odors, and tactile issues. The glass beads are smaller and create a more typical blanket or comforter feel, instead of a bean-bag feel to the cover. The word “Happiness” is embroidered on the side of the microfiber plush duvet cover.

After the initial Kickstarter campaign ended, the team asked the backers for feedback. Many requested a new release of blankets in a heavier size. Spahr and his team at TRU Lite Bedding quickly began working towards a second release on Kickstarter. They retained the features of the original TRU Blanket but created a heavier version of 20 pounds. Since the suggested weight for weighted blankets is 10% of the user’s body weight, the heavier blanket will serve to widen the reach to a broader market.

Jason Spahr, the TRUBlanket’s designer and CEO of TRU Lite Bedding, tells of his excitement, “Our customers are reaching out to us and telling us we’ve got an amazing product. We asked them what features they were most interested in, and they came back asking us for a 20-pound weight option. It’s gratifying to know that improving so many people’s quality of life on a daily basis. Now even more people will enjoy the benefits of a weighted blanket!”
