Southwestern College, Counselors de Santa Fe, and the New Mexico Art Therapy Association are collaborating to offer a workshop and presentation on Coaching, Saturday, November 9th.

Southwestern College in Santa Fe, which offers Master’s degrees in Counseling and Art Therapy, is dedicated not only to the clinical teachings that their students require for the field, but also to assisting students and professionals learn about the business aspects of mental health. As part of this commitment, the school is pleased to announce a workshop and presentation on coaching to be held on Saturday, November 9th from 10 am – 12 pm, and will be taught by Kalyn Bastion-Gerber.

"Similar to Therapists, Coaches assist people in improving their personal lives,” says Southwestern College President, Dr. Jim Nolan. “But whereas therapists tend to guide people back toward baseline, or pre-trauma functioning, Coaches seek to help clients reach their full potential as human beings, and achieve the life they want for themselves. Fundamentally, Coaches come from the perspective that 'You don't have to be sick to get better." They are directive, challenging, optimistic, and they trust in their clients' capacity to realize their greatest potential."

The workshop will focus on both methodologies of coaching as well as the marketing and branding aspects that can be used to enhance current and future practices.

Kalyn Bastion-Gerber has prepared coaches to be able to: work with clients and conditioning, help clients work at an energetic level and improve their lives, help clients create a life they prefer, create courses for clients, and learn how to brand and market themselves. She is also the co- founder of Social Media Pathways, a social media and marketing firm based in Santa Fe, NM.

"I’m looking forward to helping both students and professionals learn more about not only what coaches do differently for their clients, but also about having a positive marketing mindset to impact a business or career," says Bastion-Gerber.

Now in its 34th year, Southwestern College’s motto is Transforming Consciousness through Education. It is a graduate level institution that focuses on counseling and art therapy. Offering a holistic environment for learning, students undergo rigorous academic work that follows national standards for the Counseling and Art Therapy professions while also afforded opportunities for deeply meaningful interaction and sharing.
