SleepTM - Telemedicine consultation for sleep disorders is now available via secure video to California patients from Dr. Ronald Popper, a sleep disorders specialist with offices in Thousand Oaks.

Dr. Ronald A. Popper, MD, FCCP, FAASM, DABSM, has begun providing sleep disorders diagnosis and treatment consultation via secure video link using SleepTM, a web-based, HIPAA compliant video system that eliminates the barrier of distance. Telemedicine improves access to care for those patients who cannot get to a sleep disorders specialist or do not have one in their area.

Dr. Popper is the founder and Medical Director of The Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center, established in 1984. He is Board Certified in Sleep Disorders Medicine by both the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine – Subspecialty of Sleep Medicine. As one of the pioneers in the field of Sleep Medicine, he championed the concept of the free standing sleep center, recognizing the difficulty of performing personalized and efficient medical care within the confines of a hospital or university center. As a result of his efforts, the Southern California Pulmonary and Sleep Disorders Medical Center was the first non-hospital, non-university based Sleep Disorders Center to be fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. And now, Dr. Popper is an early adopter and proponent of the use of telemedicine in the field of sleep disorders diagnosis and treatment.

SleepTM is available through Dr. Popper’s office to all patients within California, without the need to visit his office in Thousand Oaks. Consultation takes place over a HIPAA compliant secure video link, where patients talk directly with Dr. Popper and receive the same comprehensive discussion and careful diagnosis they would experience in an office visit. This technology is particularly helpful for those patients who may be at high risk for travel, vulnerable to illness when exposed to other people, or who simply do not have a sleep specialist near their home.
