The True Cross is the name for the relic (the physical remains of a holy person, place or object) which, by tradition, is from the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. The relic of the True Cross at SHF is one of the rare, small relics taken from the major portion of the True Cross which is preserved in the Roman Basilica of the Holy Cross.

SHF was founded in 1977 by Father Anthony Ward on the feast of the Holy Family and was placed under the patronage of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. The community has been located in Colorado since February 1977. The motherhouse with its chapel is situated on ten acres of land south of the Black Forest near the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

When Fr. Ward was leaving the seminary of the Immaculate Conception for continued studies at the Pontifical Institute in Fribourg, Switzerland. His moral theology priest-professor gave him this relic.

“In addition to viewing the relic mentioned, it’s also possible to make a donation to our church via our website or by contacting the church,” Michael McMahon of the Servants of the Holy Family. “At our Servants of The Holy Family Colorado Springs location, we offer our parishioners access to a traditional Latin mass and invite those in and around the area to join us for this spiritual event.”
