Rubbish London has defied convention in the sustainable fashion market with the release of 100% Recycled Cotton Sweatshirts. Further information can be found at https://www.rubbishlondon.co.uk

Earlier today, Rubbish London finally announced the release of 100% Recycled Cotton Sweatshirts – their new material, which has been in development since 2019 is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK to be used as a stand alone clothing fabric. Recycled cotton no longer has to be blended with other materials to create a fabric strong enough to manufacture into clothing saving huge amounts of resources….

Matthew Hyland, Company Founder at Rubbish London, says: “It has always been our goal to create clothing from 100% recycled cotton.” Anyone familiar with the sustainable fashion market will probably have noticed that recycled cotton is usually blended with another material such as recycled plastic. This is a great way of combatting the global plastic crisis however manufacturing in this way although better than standard cotton production is still labour intensive, requires lots of water, energy and chemicals..

100% recycled cotton sweatshirts require a fraction of the resources when compared to organic cotton production for example. This is because the cotton which is left over manufacturing waste, already exists. It does not need to be grown which is where the majority of resources are used. 765,000 litres of water can be saved per ton of recycled cotton according to www.sustainyourstyle.org who also state that the benefits of recycling cotton include low energy requirements, made from waste, no soil erosion, from renewable resource, chemical control, no GMO and biodegradable.. ‘Rubbish London chose to make this move because we are at the forefront of sustainable fashion and we are always looking for new ways to produce clothing in both an ethical and sustainable way. Creating clothing from 100% recycled cotton has been our goal since launching in 2019 and we are delighted to have made the breakthrough. We chose this method because although we use recycled materials in our other ranges we are determined to find more sustainable options’..

Matthew Hyland also said “We want to give people something to get excited about. We know our customers care about the planet and we want to be able to offer them the most sustainable options before anyone else. This is a huge leap forward for not just us but for the fashion industry in general and we are sure our customers will be as excited as we are.. With 100% Recycled Cotton Sweatshirts, they can be excited. When wearing our 100% Recycled cotton sweatshirts we want our customers to look and feel great in the knowledge that their sweatshirt is made from the most sustainable material on the planet. Trying something new is always a risk, especially for a small brand but it’s a risk we believe is worth taking.”

Rubbish London was launched in 2019, with the aim of creating exciting fashion from recycled materials..
