Rocky McElhaney Law Firm, an award-winning personal injury practice with offices in Nashville, Hendersonville, Clarksville, and Knoxville, hosted its annual fundraiser for Gallatin CARES. The firm raised $5700 and collected food for the non-profit organization. This year’s fundraising events ran from November 9, 2020 to December 3, 2020 and culminated in two days of service by the firm’s staff.“This was a particularly tough year for fundraising,” said firm founder Rocky McElhaney. “The pandemic has left a lot of people out of work, which has strained the supplies of Gallatin CARES even more. The pandemic came on the heels of devastating tornadoes across Nashville and middle Tennessee. We knew it was going to be harder this year but you don’t help others because it’s easy. You help them because it’s right. And this year the right thing to do was help our community as much as we possibly could. We are grateful to those who could assist us in our goal.”
This year, Rocky McElhaney Law Firm partnered with Music City Health and Just for Kids Teeth, so that there were multiple contactless drop-off locations. The firm’s Nashville location was one of three spots where people could donate funds, food, or physical donations.
Over the past several years, RML has raised more than $20,000 for Gallatin CARES.
About Gallatin CARES
Gallatin CARES (Christian Association for the Relief of Economic Suffering) is a non-profit organization which “exists to provide short-term relief and economic assistance to those in need in Gallatin and surrounding Sumner County.” Each year, Gallatin CARES supplies more than 6,000 hot meals and 700,000 lbs. of food to vulnerable families in Gallatin and throughout Sumner County.
Gallatin CARES works in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank, as well as local schools, businesses, houses of worship, and individuals to provide groceries to hundreds of families each week. It also runs a thrift store which sells gently used clothing, household goods, and furniture. These sales help fund the food pantry. Clothing from the thrift store is also given to those who need basic necessities like shoes, warm coats or a shirt for a job interview. Garments donated that are stained or worn and cannot be sold or given away to the public are instead sold to a third-party which uses the material for other purposes; those sales also help fund the food pantry.
CARES is unlike other food pantries in that the organization does not pre-qualify the people that seek its help. They do not require proof of income or a proof of address. They help everyone regardless of where they live or how much they are used to making, because they know that everyone goes through hard times regardless of how well did previously.
