The Maryland Special Olympics Organization in Montgomery County is an organization focused on bringing people together to create a healthier, and more welcoming world for all, focusing on mutual respect for everyone in communities all across the country. That is a mission that is shared by Dr. Maryam Seifi and her staff at StarBrite Dental. SOMO (Special Olympics of Maryland Organization) runs throughout the year, offering dozens of different athletic and leadership programs in which hundreds of athletes attend and participate in, and they do all of this through private sponsorships – just like StarBrite Dental.
For the last four years, in October, Dr. Seifi, her family, and her caring staff supported the Inspirational 2k/5k Walk/Run. At the run, members from the community participate in either walking or running to inspire everyone, and to promote athleticism, empowerment and values. The event focuses around the development of physical fitness, courage, and growth.
This year will be even more special, as Dr. Seifi’s own daughter, Nicole Powell, who was a Gold Medal Winner for Team USA in Acrobatic Gymnastics in Poland last year, will be putting on a special, inspirational routine showcasing some of the very same acrobatics that won her Gold in 2016. Nicole knows the value of teamwork, of practice, and of never giving up – values that the Special Olympics imbues into the athletes competing every year at their events.
At StarBrite Dental, Dr. Seifi understands these values, and works every day to bring health, understanding, and gentle care to all of her own patients. Here’s what she has to say about working with SOMO:
“It has become a little tradition at our office. Every 1st weekend in October the entire office staff, and their families head over to Georgetown Prep to support the Special Olympics of Montgomery County. We are super-excited to be a community sponsor and be able to work with Pam, the director at SOMO, on this excellent event!”
