Robert Gordon Lawyer: Tenacity Key to Winning at Trial

Share this news:

Member of personal-injury law firm Weitz & Luxenberg has long history of victory and $405 million in cumulative verdicts.

According to Robert J. Gordon, lawyer, tenacity is the prime quality an attorney must possess in order to bring home huge courtroom victories.

Gordon should know. His wins through the years now cumulatively stand in excess of $405 million, mainly from verdicts against the makers and marketers of asbestos products, harm-causing medicines, dangerous medical devices, and more.

Achievement at that level earns considerable acclaim for Mr. Gordon, a member of the Manhattan-based mass tort and personal-injury litigation law firm Weitz & Luxenberg, PC. Best Lawyers in 2011 named him “New York Mass Torts Litigator of the Year.” In 2012, he was again tapped as a New York metropolitan-area “Super Lawyer” – a laurel bestowed upon him every year since 2006.

In 2009, Gordon was a Public Justice Foundation “Trial Lawyer of the Year” finalist for his role as co-lead counsel in a hugely successful multi-district litigation against makers of the environmentally harmful gasoline additive MBTE (he also was appointed by the court handling that matter to serve as co-lead counsel of the influential Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee).

In 1995, the National Law Journal slotted Mr. Gordon on its roster of “Top 40 Under 40" attorneys who exemplify superior qualifications, trial results and leadership.

More recently, Mr. Gordon – a former Philadelphia assistant district attorney – earned the gratitude of many property owners and commercial enterprises along the rim of the Gulf of Mexico by helping secure a pledge of full compensation for their losses caused by a devastating 2010 offshore oil spill that began when an exploration rig exploded.

Mr. Gordon’s face is a familiar one on plaintiffs’ steering committees in multi-district litigations. Other critical leadership posts he has held include liaison counsel, co-liaison counsel, and subcommittee co-chair.

For the New York City Bar Assn., Mr. Gordon has served on its Committee on Tort Litigation; for the American Association for Justice, he has participated on the Scientific and Medical Integrity Committee and on the organization’s List Committee.
