Residential Support Services is joining the GivingTuesday movement to advocate for the quality and choices of life in a home and community environment for adults with developmental disabilities.

GivingTuesday, taking place on December 3rd, is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage giving and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Every year, on GivingTuesday, millions of people across the globe (almost 60 countries) mobilize to show up, give back, and change their communities. The goal is to create a massive wave of generosity that lasts well beyond that day and touches every person on the planet and this year, Montana nonprofit Residential Support Services is getting involved.

Founded in 1974, Residential Support Services is a private nonprofit corporation for persons with developmental disabilities. Its sole purpose is to provide and advocate for the quality and choices of life in a home and community environment for adults with developmental disabilities, resulting in self-advocacy and independence in the least restrictive setting.

“All residents in the homes receive Social Security to pay their Board and Room charges. Each resident has a Cost Plan developed for them by their Case Manager,” explains Jim Uecker, director of Residential Support Services.

Group homes are located throughout Billings, Montana, and a house between one and eight residents in each home. RSS serves approximately 82 residents and has a staff of about 150 individuals working several different shifts in the homes. The residents go to day programs or jobs during the day. RSS has a day program (Options) that started within the corporation and there are four other day programs provided by other corporations. RSS also provides Medicaid transportation services for residents.

“Residential Support Services contracts with the Department of Health and Human Services to use the funds from their Cost Plan to provide the services they receive in the group homes,” Uecker adds.

“RSS has done a good job with the folks that have chosen to live with here. There are beds open and the company is always looking to have new folks come in,” Uecker concluded.
