Appliance Hunter reports that there are two main ways to get rid of washing machine smell.

The first involves white vinegar and lavender oil and takes two steps:

Step 1. Mix 200 ml of white Vinegar with 200 ml of water (less if you have a particularly small washing machine) and put in about 15-20 drops of your essential oil.

Step 2. Pour this into the detergent drawer and start a normal wash cycle with the drawer empty!”

The second way is slightly more aggressive and uses white vinegar and baking soda and again takes two steps:

Step 1. Mix 50 ml of baking soda with 50 ml of water, mix, and pour it into the detergent tray.

Step 2. Pour about 400 ml of vinegar straight into the drum. And turn on for a normal cycle at high heat.”
