On October 3rd, London time, the University College Oxford Blockchain Research Center was officially launched. At its Opening Ceremony, the Centre reached a strategic cooperation with Hainan Resort Software Community (RSC). The two parties will jointly build a blockchain laboratory and cultivate top talents in the blockchain industry to continually move blockchain to the mainstream. Both agree to set the great example for domestic and international exchanges and cooperation. —
Sir Ivor Crewe, Master of University College Oxford, officially announced the college’s new endeavors and were grateful for the support from Hainan RSC. He stated that: “This is a research centre that will carry out cutting-edge research on blockchain technology that is poised to transform the everyday lives of people in the world. University College, known as the oldest college in University of Oxford, is at the forefront of new technology”.
Yang Chunzhi, General Manager of Hainan Resort Software Community (RSC), said: “University College Oxford Blockchain Research Centre is the world’s leading platform for blockchain research and development. Such pursuit of real research for real world is consistent with the strategy of Hainan Resort Software Community”.
It is known that on April 13, 2018, Xi Jinping, President of China, announced that the CPC Central Committee has decided to support Hainan in building the whole island into a pilot Free Trade Zone, and gradually exploring and steadily promoting the establishment of a Free Trade Port with Chinese characteristics. Since then, Hainan was given policy advantages and openness with governmental support to carry out blockchain related breakthroughs and experiments. Hainan RSC is home to Baidu Blockchain, 360 Blockchain, Thunder Blockchain, Huobi China’s Headquarter and so forth. More than 3000 Internet companies including Tencent and Huawei are situated at Hainan RSC. Meanwhile, RSC has established cooperation with China’s first-class technology and regulatory institutions including Tsinghua University’s Finance Technology Research Institute, Tsinghua PBCSF, Renmin University of China Law School, Digital Currency Research Institute of People's Bank of China, and the Institute of Computing Technology of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Yang added that blockchain can empower the real economy and facilitate trade through the development of Hainan Free Trade Zone (Port). He believes, with the cooperation with University College Oxford Blockchain Research Centre, Hainan Free Trade Zone (Port) can be the world's leading Digital Free Trade Port in the near future. He also said: “Such cooperation can be of significant value to the societal good and the development of real economy through technological innovation and systematic change”. Hainan RSC will provide an ecosystem for blockchain industry to flourish and build the bridge to facilitate communication between business entities and government so that blockchain can be moved to the mainstream sustainably.
Dr. Bangdao Chen, the Co-Founder of the Centre, added that: “Blockchain and distributed trusted platforms can provide cheaper services with more efficiency. It is possible to use blockchain and its related technologies to create a securer, fairer and more transparent society that transcends national boundaries while respecting local laws and regulations.
