Builders Academy Australia have successfully launched their virtual online classroom training to students across Australia. The Academy is currently the only Australian education provider offering building & construction qualifications through this interactive and immersive online training method.

An interactive alternative to traditional online classes
Compared to traditional online learning, Builders Academy’s virtual classroom is delivered in real-time by a qualified trainer through webinar software. Students and trainers log on remotely at scheduled times each week and the units are taught through a combination of audio and visual elements.
The students now have the best of both worlds; attend classes from the comfort of their own home while maintaining all of the benefits that come with direct communication and interaction between student, trainer and fellow classmates.
The webinar technology allows for a very supportive and encouraging learning environment. Polls and quizzes are integrated within the learning modules. This ensures that the students maintain engagement as well as giving the trainer an indication that the content is being absorbed. Further to this, group discussions are held before, during and after the scheduled class times which allow for the students to ask for clarification of certain topics, as well as share and relate personal work experiences to the curriculum.
Leading the way
A recent report by the Department of Education and Training highlighted that the national completion rate of online courses can be as low as 7%. Builders Academy believe that by introducing this innovative learning delivery to their online classes, the completion rates will be much higher. The long term goal is to have online completion rates reach the same success of their face-to-face brick and mortar classes which are currently above the national average of 80%.
Positive feedback
Although only launched in June, the feedback from students and trainers has been positive. Steven Thompson, a site foreman from Geelong and one of the first intakes remarks “I did the diploma online. The teacher runs through everything online. It’s basically like a lecture. What you see is a slideshow and you hear his voice. You can hear what he is showing on the screen as he goes through it. And then there is homework to make sure you get it right. The good thing about it is, if you miss one, they are all recorded so you can just go and have a look through it. But I try not to miss them—I haven’t missed one yet. It’s pretty cool.”
