Omaha Drug Lawyer Predicts Substantial Increase In Marijuana Arrests on I-80

Share this news:

Omaha drug lawyer Daniel Stockmann follows marijuana arrests on I-80 closely and noticed an increase in stops, something that many Nebraska residents may want to note as they travel.

Over the next few months, expect to see an increase in the number of marijuana stops on I-80. Increased scrutiny over drivers on the highway will result in more stops and marijuana arrests for charges ranging from simple possession to drug trafficking. These stops are likely to occur on major stretches of I-80 and will disrupt life in and around Omaha. These stops will target drug trafficking on I-80, rental cars, vans, trucks, and suspicious drivers.

Nebraska Drug Trafficking Attorney Daniel Stockmann explains: “Law enforcement officers need to stop people in Nebraska because if they can’t stop them here, they will go into states where it is legal. Of course, trafficking and manufacturing are still illegal in some states, but that doesn’t lessen the chance of getting caught in Nebraska. For years now, marijuana arrests on I-80 have been the focus for law enforcement because there are just so many traffickers who use our state as a thoroughfare.”

Nebraska drug officials won’t be the only ones making the marijuana stops on I-80- nationwide, there have been more drug stops in the midwest. They are looking for the largest drug “kingpins” but they aren’t always successful. For every seizure the make of hundreds of pounds of drugs, simple possession charges accrue.

“Medical marijuana, simple use marijuana, edibles, and even drug paraphernalia in cars on I-80 all lead to drug charges,” Stockmann reasons. “They aren’t going to overlook anything. They are trying to send a message and if the start of 2020 is any indication, they won’t stop doing it.”

While the traffic stops have been put into place to slow down drug traffickers, it will also impact people who have small amounts of marijuana for personal use. A marijuana possession charge can negatively impact lives in many ways, including with jobs, child custody, reputations, insurances, and more.
