Ohming Technology Weighs in on Study Showing People Making Fewer Phone Calls on Their Cellphones

Ohming Technology discusses a recent Deloitte study which shows that one in four people won’t even make a call on their cellphone in any given week.

Ohming Technology (www.Ohming.com), a company that develops products to conveniently charge multiple devices simultaneously, is weighing in on a study by Deloitte showing that people are using their cellphones for everything but making phone calls.

The study showed that one in four people in developed countries can go up to a week without making a single call on their cellphones. It’s suggested that the reason for this decrease in telephone calls is due to the majority of interactions between friends and families occurring on social media and the fact that many daily chores, like depositing a check or ordering take-out, can now easily be done online. “It’s to the point now where a phone is much more than a phone,” says Paul Romanenko, owner and CEO of Ohming Technology. “We rely on our phones not just for simple communication, but to perform daily tasks, to browse the internet, read books and articles, not to mention the countless amounts of apps we download. They are a functional part of our lives.”

The study revealed that dependency on smartphones continues to increase, with 40% of people habitually checking their smartphones within minutes of waking up and another third doing so before going to sleep. According to the study, more than $17 billion will be generated by consumers trading in their smartphones. That number will include 120 million smartphones being sold or traded in—a number that is up by 50% from 2015.

“Keeping phones constantly charged so they’re available when users need them most is going to become a much bigger consideration” Romanenko comments “Keeping these devices on which people are so reliant is an industry all by itself.”

Ohming Technology recognizes the increased dependency on smartphones and works to specifically develop products like portable chargers and charging stations to help keep mobile devices charged while users are on the move.
