Dr. David Shannon, family and cosmetic dentist in Northridge, CA has just launched his 6th annual candy buy-back program aimed at saving young teeth and sharing a little Halloween sweetness with the men and women serving in uniform passing through Los Angeles.

This Halloween, David Shannon DDS, cosmetic and family dentist in Northridge, is hosting his 6th annual Candy Buy-Back Program, which aims both to promote children's health and to bring some Halloween spirit to U.S. troops en route through Los Angeles to destinations around the world.

Families who wish to donate candy to the program can bring it to Dr. Shannon’s office or to any one of several participating school fundraisers or sponsored charities. Dr. Shannon will pay $1 for each pound of donated candy. Children still get all the fun and excitement of trick-or-treating while diminishing the negative effects of sugar by swapping their excess candy for cash.

The last day to drop off donated “candy for cash” is November 10th. It should be delivered to Dr. Shannon's Northridge office to be exchanged for cash. All collected candy will be delivered to the Bob Hope USO Center at Los Angeles International Airport on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11th and will be shared with members of the U.S. military as they pass through LAX.

The Candy Buy-Back Program is receiving such excellent response that the goal this year is to collect one ton (2000 pounds) of “excess” Halloween candy. Dr. Shannon is joined by others in the community who have come on board to co-sponsor the event. participation and monetary donation will help promote children's health as well as military morale, and will give everyone the opportunity to participate with the local community in a worthwhile cause. Anyone interested in cosponsoring the event or using it to raise funds for a school, church, or other community organization should contact Dr. Shannon before October 31, 2014.

Sponsors of the 2014 campaign include Dr. Marcia Coppertino who, with her consulting group out of Redondo Beach, is a full co-sponsor of this year's festivities. A dedicated humanitarian, she works tirelessly for the community in support of several organizations, including the Mercy Mission Bear Hospital and Adoption Agency, the 20/30 Organization, the American Association of University Women, and the Office on Women's Health. Also joining the campaign is Ms. Grace Rodriguez, attorney, wellness consultant and inspiration.
