Dog Tag Buddies is celebrating their 2 year Anniversary, which commemorates 2 life changing years in business. This is a huge milestone for the Shepherd Montana-based Non-Profit business, which has provided team-based training to rescue canines and war veterans with hidden injuries since 2015.
Dog Tag Buddies got its start in 2015, as a result of founder and Executive Director, DeeDe Baker’s experience with dealing with her husband’s diagnosis of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) upon his return from his deployment to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
One of the earliest challenges Baker faced was transitioning from the idea of placing adoptable shelter dogs with veterans and providing training to them as a team to making it a reality.
While every business faces these challenges, some like Dog Tag Buddies are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes, wins, and victories too. The first real victory came when a VISTA Volunteer went to the local animal shelter seeking a project that was community, veteran, and animal-oriented. With that, their main vision started to take shape, fulfilling Baker’s dream.
Another major accolade for Dog Tag Buddies’ history was when Baker was recognized by the Billings Gazette as one in the” 20 exceptional women are ‘angels among'” editorial series.”
Baker says “We’re delighted to be celebrating our upcoming 2 Year Anniversary. I believe the secret to getting this far in business today, is knowing that what I do every day makes a difference. Watching (dogs) grow alongside the veterans is very rewarding”.
Dog Tag Buddies is dedicated to providing veterans with hidden injuries the opportunity to lead more fulfilling lives, by providing no cost services in the adoption and training of rescued dogs to become companion or service animals. Dog Tag Buddies also has big plans for the upcoming year. One of their core objectives is grow the program statewide and across the region by connecting many more service dogs for veterans with hidden injuries.
