Ballroom dance competition Gateway DanceSport Festival in Newark, New Jersey has announced one of the first non-collegiate, all-inclusive gender-neutral dance competition. The competition is now accepting entries from couples made up of two people regardless of gender. The festival will take places on Memorial Day Weekend, May 25 & 26, 2019.

All couples who are registered for the same style of dance, proficiency and age group will compete in the same category and be judged against each other. The competition is open to everyone, regardless of membership status in any dance organization.
A couple is defined as any two people who dance together in at least one event, regardless of their gender. Couples are eligible enter the level they are qualified to dance, or higher levels, but are not allowed to dance below their proficiency level.
Competitors under the age of 18 must have their parent or legal guardian sign a permission waiver, unless they are legally emancipated.
Registration for the competition is now open, and fees vary based on the age group of the athletes. To ensure guaranteed entry into the athletes’ event choice, all registration fees must be received by May 11th, after which a late fee of $20 per couple will be incurred. All late entries will be at the discretion of the registrar.
The festival has a dress code stating that all dancers should be dressed in age-appropriate and style-appropriate attire, which is tasteful and covers all private areas of the body.
The festival has reserved a block of hotel rooms at the Ramada Plaza on Frontage Road in Newark. Athletes and spectators can call the hotel to reserve their room at 973-589-1000 and ask for the Gateway Dance Sport Festival’s room block.
