Run what you Brung’ and ‘Factory modified mach race’ were some of slogans that attracted drag racing fans in droves during weekends to the drag strips all across America back in the 1960s. The very first 1965 Ford A/FX T Shirt on the market has arrived, and is available only on the official store of Quarter Mile Addiction. The T-shirts represent and revive a significant moment in the history of drag racing, when the ‘FX’ cars were first introduced. The very name ‘FX’ meant great thrill and excitement for drag racing fans. In 1961 a common practice emerged of fitting high performance parts outside normal production to be fitted into other models.
NHRA introduced the ‘FX’ class as a ‘mix and match’ approach, allowing parts such as a powerful engine from one vehicle to be fitted into one with a lighter body. The categories of A/FX, B/FX and C/FX classified cars based on weight to cubic inches rather than horsepower. The A/FX cars made their debut in 1962 at the NHRA Winternationals held at Pomona.
