New Study Shows Work-From-Home to be the Norm by 2021

Remote working employment options are on the rise as many companies are coming to realize the opportunities that exist by having teams work from a home office.

While interest and stock in Zoom, the popular online video meeting platform, went sky high over the past few months, there’s been a lot of discussion around what a post-covid workplace will look like. If the global pandemic taught employers one thing, it’s that a work-from-home scenario is more than feasible. Working on both ends of the spectrum; employees have a better work-life balance, while employers have discovered a way to reduce overhead by not requiring as much paid space in which to do business.

While it may not work for everyone, there’s certainly an argument to be made for remote employment. Global Workplace Analytics launched a survey in partnership with Dr. Anita Kamouri, co-founder of Iometrics and several global associations, to discover what a post-covid workplace could look like.

“We believe,” stated Kate Lister, President of Global Workplace Analytics, “based on historical trends, that those who were working remotely before the pandemic, will increase their frequency after they are allowed to return to their offices. For those who were new to remote work until the pandemic, we believe there will be a significant upswing in their adoption.”

These results are indicative of the impact the pandemic has had on workplaces in north america and the continuing effect it will have moving forward.

“Our best estimate is that 25-30% of the workforce will be working-from-home multiple days a week by the end of 2021.”

On the employer’s side, there’s also the cost cutting advantage of not having employees on site. The survey conducted by Global Workplace Analytics found, “A typical employer can save about $11,000/year for every person who works remotely half of the time. Employees can save between $2,500 and $4,000 a year (working remotely half the time) and even more if they are able to move to a less expensive area and work remotely full time.”

With more and more employers beginning to change their business model to be more accommodating, save money, and do better business in a post-covid world, recruitment agencies, such as Platinum Recruiting in Kelowna, BC, are changing with the times.

Recruitment agencies are taking into account the new wave of remote working opportunities and are placing the best people in the right job. While the post-covid world may look different, studies like those from Global Workplace Analytics prove it may actually be a step in the right direction for employers and employees alike.
