Morris, AL – September 24, 2018 – Lunovus LLC, an innovative ophthalmic product company, is announcing a reorganization of the company and is looking forward to continuing their tradition of quality and affordable eye care products as well as expanding their Doc2home Delivery Service with the support of their new leadership. Dr. John Mason and Mr. Jeff McAnnally recently transferred their interest to new ownership.
Lunovus was originally founded by an Ophthalmologist, Dr. John O. Mason III, a retina specialist at the UAB Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital. Dr. Mason established the company Macular Health after discovering that his grandmother was suffering from macular degeneration. He completed extensive research and created the premier formula before the AREDS study actually came out. The idea for the company was to sell a high-quality, low cost product that could help people just like his grandmother. The company Macular Health eventually transitioned into becoming Lunovus LLC.
Lunovus will continue to be a leader in the ophthalmic nutrition industry and tackle persistent eye conditions like dry eye and macular degeneration. Under the leadership of Dr. Marnix Heersink, an American Board of Ophthalmology Certified Ophthalmic Surgeon, the company will retain the benefits of having a physician led company with a renewed focus on helping physicians achieve their goals of promoting patients’ health and finding viable revenue streams.
Dr. Heersink has over 40 years of experience leading a successful ophthalmology practice with subspecialty training in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of cataracts as well as laser vision correction. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and International College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons.

This new leadership also comes with the launch of a Doc2home Delivery Service: Lunovus’ updated digital delivery system for eye doctors that sends eye care products straight to the patient’s door. “What we love about Doc2home is how it really is a win-win for both patients and physicians,” says Dr. Heersink. “It increases patient compliance by ensuring patients get quality products exactly when they need them and allows doctors to gain revenue from vitamin and nutraceutical sales year-round to offset increasing expenses of modern day medicine.
