Pre-registration is now open for homeowners who are looking for ways to make money from home by renting out their extra space. MyaStorage, a peer to peer self storage rental website, plans to reinvent the concept of self storage.

A new website, Myastorage.com, is inviting entrepreneurial homeowners to participate in a unique opportunity to turn extra space into cash by offering empty storage areas to people looking for self-storage solutions.

MyaStorage will connect homeowners who might be looking to subsidize their income, and also have empty space in and around their home, with individuals who need extra space. The interactive site opens the door for rental of anything from extra closet space to whole rooms, attics, tool sheds and more. Even extra shelves, refrigerators or freezers could become a storage solution.Homeowners have an opportunity to advertise their unique space on MyaStorage at no charge to them.

People looking for a place to store their individual or grouped items may shop on the website for affordable and even unique size storage spaces in their area as an alternative to expensive, traditional storage units where choices are limited to 10×10 feet and up.At the same time, homeowners with garages and yards may also offer opportunity for people looking to store boats, cars, RVs and other large items.

A website was just launched to accept pre-registrations by homeowners who will be able to submit their pictures, description of space and pricing for inclusion in the official website to be revealed March 1.

MyaStorage is the new kid on the block when it comes to peer to peer rental but it promises to be the most important for the storage market. The idea is the brainchild of three boyhood friends Leszek Skrzypczynski , Mark Spence and Liam Hodgins, who all had a passion for developing creative business ideas. The idea came to them after a discussion about where to store hiking and biking equipment when there was little space available.  “Mark and Liam were living in small apartments while I was living in spacious suburbia.  A connection was quickly made between these two living spaces; one requiring more space and one with a plethora to offer. MyaStorage was that connection.” said Leszek.

This new concept for storage is part of the evolving peer-to-peer rental market which is rapidly expanding and changing the way business is done. The storage solution that MyaStorage offers is designed to meet the needs of anyone looking for affordable storage, but particularly aligns with the needs of Millennials. According to Wikipedia, the Millennials are almost as large a population as the baby boomers. Large populations move markets and they rapidly affect changes in the housing market as they begin to move to their own homes.  Their preference for type of housing is very different from the previous generation. It seems they prefer urban living over big homes situated on large tracts of land.

According to a TSSA Self Storage News article about changes in the industry, 61% of the population is currently living in or around urban areas.TSSA member Kelly Beevers of Hixon Storage, San Antonio, was quoted in the article as saying “In addition to our generally active and downsized lifestyles, my generation’s overall mobility and subsequent frequency of relocation will undeniably create a differentiated demand for storage in the future.”Urban living generally means smaller homes and less place to store seasonal equipment, clothing, and other items that just won’t fit in an apartment, condominium or small house.

MyaStorage aims to fill the need by making it easy for homeowners and those who need more storage space to connect across the internet. For additional information or to register for a listing go to http://myastorage.com
