Celebrating 33 years assisting musicians, Music Dials now features a recent contemporary design of their hand-held visual aids that assist with understanding musical chords, scales, and notes.

Ron Greene, the inventor of the Music Dials, remarks… “I’ve been playing musical instruments since 1963. Around 1987 I discovered something very interesting, a large gap in music theory lessons and instructional programs. I could not locate any products on the market that would support my ability to grow with my instruments, in an easy format.”

In the late 80’s Ron applied many mind-storming ways to come up with an idea that would assist an existing and beginning musician with the ability to quickly and easily expand on their musical skills, while making music theory fun at the same time.

“Prototype after prototype emerged. For many years my basement looked like something from Frankenstein meets Thomas Edison.” Ron further says, “I was always looking for better ways to understand and apply musical insights… After years of experimentation the inspirational flash I was searching for streaked across my brain in an instant. All of my prototypes came together in that moment. The thought of having all references to music theory in one hand-held device.” Hence 33 years the Music Dial Charts were born.

According to Ani Patel, an associate professor of psychology at Tufts University and the author of “Music, Language, and the Brain” – learning an instrument affects the developing brain. She notes that there is a growing body of work, which suggests that actually learning to play a musical instrument does have impacts on certain abilities. They include speech perception, the ability to understand emotions in the voice and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The Music Dials provides the musician with the ability to visually show the chord structures, melodic notes, and scale positions on a fret-board for string instruments, and keyboard locations for piano players, using an adjustable hand-held reference (dial) chart.

According to Greene, “All popular songs are played in a specific key and many of the top popular songs ever recorded use an average of just 3 musical chords. The shape of a song is simply the melody along with the form of its chords as they weave through-out a song structure, otherwise known as progressions.”

Celebrating their 33rd year in the music instruction biz, Ron Greene also has a complimentary Guitar Note and Chord Reference pamphlet available for the budding musician, located at their website… MusicDials.com
