The new RITx’s Cybersecurity MicroMasters Program is ideal for those looking to get an understanding of the different cybersecurity tasks that they could encounter on the job.

Today, cybersecurity professionals are in high demand across a wide variety of industries. Cyberthreats and cybercrime are predicted to cost the world $6 trillion by 2021 and increasingly more businesses and organizations are looking for cybersecurity professionals to protect their networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access.

In addition, jobs in cybersecurity in the US are expected to grow 29% by 2030, with the average annual salary for cybersecurity professionals being $96,000 over the last 12 months.

Courses offered in the RITx Micromasters Program in Cybersecurity include Cybersecurity Fundamentals, Computer Forensics, Cybersecurity Risk Management, Network Security, and Cybersecurity Capstone.

As part of the Cybersecurity Fundamentals course, participants will learn how to detect threats, protect systems and networks, and anticipate potential cyber attacks.

They will also learn the processes, techniques and tools for performing a digital forensics investigation to obtain data related to computer crimes after their Computer Forensics course.

Those who successfully earn the MicroMasters program certificate are eligible to apply to RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences for graduate program certificate options. They will be able to start a career as security analyst, security engineer, security architect, forensics investigator, cybersecurity specialist, and many more.

Bob Kalka, CRISC, Vice President, IBM Security Business Unit, said about the program: “The shortage of skilled and qualified cybersecurity professionals is one of the biggest issues facing our Internet-connected world today. RIT is helping to close this gap as a leader in computing security education.”
