Mean Gene Fireworks is celebrating their 33rd Anniversary, which commemorates thirty three wonderful years in business. This is a huge milestone for the Vancouver Washington-based fireworks store business, which has provided retail fireworks in their multiple fireworks stands to people who celebrate the 4th of July since 1985.
Mean Gene Fireworks got its start in 1985 when founder Gene Marlow started it in a small 16 foot structure in the heart of North Portland. The most popular item for sale was a fountain fireworks product that sent a shower of sparks six feet in the air. After hearing many customers commenting that they were “… going to Washington for the good stuff,” Gene Marlow had enough of that so he moved the company to Washington to “…sell the good stuff!”.
One of the biggest challenges Mean Gene Fireworks faced in its early days was the fact that Portland Oregon residents were going to Washington to purchase their July 4th fireworks because Washington laws are far less restrictive when it comes to the sale of retail pyrotechnics.
While every business of course faces challenges, some, like Mean Gene Fireworks are fortunate enough to enjoy real successes, wins and victories too. One such victory came when the business decided to relocate the business to Washington.
Gene Marlow, Founder of Mean Gene Fireworks was also quoted when discussing another big win. “One of the high points of Mean Gene Fireworks’ history so far was deciding to expand to multiple locations in Washington.” Mean Gene currently has eight locations – one main Vancouver WA area location and seven additional firework stands throughout southwest Washington.
Mean Gene Fireworks’s Founder, Gene Marlow says “We’re delighted to be celebrating our 33rd Year Anniversary. I believe the secret to lasting this long in business today is listening to the consumer and giving them what they want”.
Mean Gene Fireworks currently consists of over 20 employees and has big plans for the upcoming year. One of their core objectives is to offer more bang for the buck with its traditional Early Bird Special, which is featured on the home page of Mean Gene Fireworks.
