— Colgate University graduate Matthew DeMonte has launched a fundraising campaign to provide more scholarships at Colgate University and improve Colgate’s facilities.
DeMonte has volunteered his time for decades to raise funds in the name of better education at Colgate, a university in the small town of Hamilton, N.Y., that was founded in 1819. Each year, it educates nearly 3,000 students from New York and beyond.
DeMonte is no stranger to volunteer work. In 1995, he started participating in the Southern Madison County Volunteer Ambulance Corps in Hamilton. In 1996, he led Colgate University’s elementary tutoring program, mentoring children from low-income homes. From 2009-2010, DeMonte was a volunteer and event captain for Big Brothers Big Sisters in New York City.
DeMonte’s business successes have given him the type of experience needed to be in a position of mentorship, and he is passing on his knowledge. Colgate’s graduation rate is 92% as of 2017 and is likely to rise with the help of individuals like DeMonte, who are investing in the future.
